Six months into the 2010 NSW Master Events Calendar and it has been a stellar year for Sydney and NSW. Already we have hosted 45 events, 34 we directly invest in through Events NSW.
Over the last 8 weeks we have been working hard to secure another 8 events for the Calendar including Wintersun Festival from Queensland, the Danny Green versus Paul Briggs bout, the Sydney Festival of Football, with others to be announced over the coming months covering a spectrum of music, performing and visual arts and sport.
But before we move into the second half of the year we thought the time was right to reflect on 2010 and share with our key stakeholders what else is on the horizon from Events NSW. |

It was all smiles at Sydney’s Luna Park when Premier Keneally officially launched the 2010 Sydney Autumn Carnival in March. Broadcast to 22 countries, the Carnival consisted of 52 races across six superb Saturdays, concluding with Sydney Cup Day at Royal Randwick.
Overall crowd numbers for the Golden Slipper, Derby and Doncaster Days were up, while NSW TAB saw a turnover increase of more than 10 per cent. For the first time, Golden Slipper day bumped the Victoria Derby Day out of its usual place as the fourth biggest turnover for NSW TAB behind Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup Days, showing off NSW’s true racing stripes. |

In March, Premier Keneally announced the appointment of John Conde AO as Chairman of Events NSW. John Conde’s extensive background across the private and public sectors, and as Chairman of a range of high profile business, arts, media and sporting organisations, is a great asset to the organisation.
At the same time the Premier created a dedicated portfolio at Cabinet level for Major Events, as well as a Cabinet Standing Committee. This move has served to elevate Events as a whole of Government priority for NSW. The Hon. Kevin Greene was appointed Minister for Major Events on 5 June. |

| Community Tracker |
 |
| Gauging community sentiment towards the events landscape is paramount to Events NSW. That’s why we initiated a monthly online survey of NSW residents titled Community Tracker. A representative sample of approximately 500 respondents across NSW has been surveyed every month since October 2008, with nearly 8,000 surveys completed. |

| In January, Premier Keneally announced the Australian Film Institute Awards (AFIs) will return home to Sydney in 2011 after 10 years in Melbourne. While in May, Events NSW launched the draft blueprint for the future of the Tamworth Country Music Festival and secured Australia’s largest annual rock’n’roll event – the Wintersun Festival for Port Macquarie and other regional NSW centres for 2011 onwards. The festival, which has been held in Queensland since 1978, will inject $25 million into the NSW economy every year. |
